Sewing Instructor
Middle School and Cruces Creatives Adult Education
Requirements for the position:
Must be available Tue-Thurs 1pm-8pm, Saturday 8am-6pm
Experience working with youth is preferred
Excited to work with young people (esp. middle school)
Excited to learn about child development
Strong sewing experience, (i.e., garment construction, quilting and simple stuffies)
Familiarity with basic sewing machines and sergers
Basic sewing machine and serger maintenance skills (cleaning, oiling, etc.)
Comfortable with computers/embroidery design software
Preferred if familiar with industrial sewing machines and home embroidery machines
Excited to level up personal sewing skills, willingness to “play” within the textiles domain
Excited and warm in helping students level up their skills and maintain high quality-control standards
Familiar with “shop etiquette and safety”
Able to lift and load up to 60 lbs. daily
Needs reliable transportation to and from classes - including daily transportation of materials
Able to work collaboratively with team members and students
Bilingual in English and Spanish is a bonus
Job Description:
The after school instructor is responsible for implementing our new service learning program, creating packing lists, identifying materials for orders lists, maintaining orderliness in materials storage and textile room, preparing materials for class projects, and cooperating with Volunteer Coordinator and Charitable Crafting leads. The instructor is expected to pack and transport supply bins weighing 30-60 lbs. between Cruces Creatives and school sites, maintain an orderly project storage space at the schools where allowed, and make sure to “leave no trace” after class sessions.
Students will be developing sewing skills by producing items for other non-profit agencies. The instructor will manage student projects and production timeline, provide high levels of quality control, monitor adherence to safety protocol, be able to offer first aid, provide clear and kind feedback, and help students develop their problem solving skills.
Additionally, the instructor will provide textile orientation and safety training for Cruces Creatives members on a weekly basis, maintain records of trainees, participate in machine cleaning and maintenance, and maintain orderliness of the textiles area. Areas of member training include basic sewing machine, serger, industrial sewing machine and domestic embroidery machine use.
The instructor is expected to monitor Slack and email communications each work day, access and use reference documents on Google Drive, maintain appropriate class records, take and upload appropriate class photos, maintain professional communications with parents, project partners, Cruces Creatives members, and report issues immediately. This is a highly collaborative work environment, and the instructor is expected to participate and reciprocate to maintain good relationships.
The instructor is expected to arrive on time and in appropriate attire for all classes, meetings, work sessions, etc.
Compensation for the position is $18/hour at 23 hours a week.
Start date: Jan. 13, 2026End date: May 15, 2026
Contingent on funding, this position may be extended.

Maker Instructor
Middle School After School program
Requirements for the position:
Must be available Tue/Thurs 1pm-8pm, Saturday 8am-6pm
Experience working with youth is preferred
Excited to work with middle school students
Comfortable with computers/design software
Laser and CNC competent and/or curious
Knowledgeable with simple circuitry (i.e., electric household items)
Experience in basic carpentry, familiar with hand tools, power tools, safety gear, etc.
Familiar with “shop culture” and shop safety
Able to manage project timelines and logistics
Tinkerer kind of human, curious mind and likely to repair items in your own life
Able to work collaboratively with team members and students
Able to lift and load up to 65 lbs. daily
Needs reliable transportation to and from classes - including daily transportation of materials.
Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus
