Intended for beginning sewists, there are no prerequisite skills required.

Students will use the sewing machine to make their own drawstring backpack.

Skills learned in this class include:

• How to select and use multiple stitch types
• How to create fabric loops and ties
• How to pin and stitch a casing
• Topstitching techniques
• How to insert ties into casing
• How to maintain accurate seam allowances

All materials are provided.

Students should wear closed toe shoes in class.

Thanks to Funding from the City of Las Cruces and the American Rescue Plan Act we are able to offer this class free of cost to all Title One students who attend schools in Las Cruces, otherwise it would cost $49.00. 

Title One schools include all of the Las Cruces Public Schools, White Sands Schools, Mesilla Valley Leadership Academy, Arrowhead Park, Alma d'Arte, J Paul Taylor Academy, La Academia Dolores Huerta, Los Montanas, New America, Raíces Del Saber.
