It is recommended that students have some experience with using the sewing machine. 

Students will use the sewing machine to create a lined tote bag with interior divided pockets.  They may choose whether to keep the tote bag flat, or box the bottom (think paper grocery bags).

Skills learned in this class include:

• How to create finished top edge when using lining
• How to create clean finishes in the lining
• Use of measuring and marking tools to properly place and divide interior pocket
• Topstitching techniques
• Techniques for “boxing bags”
• Techniques for sewing on straps to resist tearing
• How to select and use different stitch types
• Design skills for customizing bags and pockets

All materials are provided.

Students should wear closed toe shoes in class.

Thanks to Funding from the City of Las Cruces and the American Rescue Plan Act we are able to offer this class free of cost to all Title One students who attend schools in Las Cruces, otherwise it would cost $49.00.
