Students who wish to participate in this class must have sewing machine experience. Some garment construction is preferable. The emphasis in this class will be on learning how to thread and operate the serger. If you have any concern about whether your student is ready for this class, please contact Sandy.
Participants in this class will learn the basics of operating a serger while sewing their own t-shirt and sweatpants. A serger uses 4 threads to create a stretchy, commercial looking seam finish particularly useful when working with knit fabrics. The serger is the preferred tool for most garment industry construction.
Students’ bodies will be measured the first day of class to create a bespoke garment pattern using our pattern generating software. Parents who would like to remain in class for this process are welcome. Students should come wearing clothing that is fairly close to the body to allow for accurate body measurements.
